THE CHALLENGE
In 2004 a group of fanatics started the First Amsterdam Dakar Challenge driving in old bangers for about 7,000 kilometres with the aim of auctioning the cars off in Gambia in aid of a chosen charity. The only rules are that the car costs no more than € 500,00 and no more than € 150,00 spent on adjustments and repairs (not that our receipts are going to be checked!).
Some facts:
- The Challenge is to drive in an old car from Amsterdam to Dakar.
- The Challenge is to get round the 7,000 kilometres in only 3 weeks.
- The Challenge is not a competition, the aim is to get the car to Dakar in one piece.
- The Challenge requires that the teams help each other along the way. So there is no professional support for the participants.
- The Challenge means to auction the car at the end. The profit goes to a charity of our choice.
- The Challenge helps ensure that we as a team raise as much sponsorship money for the charity as possible.
